2021 Woodlands Brook Chardonnay
This is a great wine, and a stunning example of the potential of our close planted Chardonnay plot at Woodlands Brook.
The somewhat cooler 2021 season allowed an extended harvest - this wine was handpicked between 1 February and 3 March. Each batch was hand sorted by the bunch, then whole bunch pressed. Ferments proceeded without additions, with some malolactic fermentation occurring though not promoted. Following ferment the wine remained in oak (300L Hogs Heads, 500L Puncheons, and a Foudre) for 10 months, 25% of which being new.
The colour is bright, pale straw. Aromas of white peach, orange blossom and apricot flare on the nose. Some fine French oak and flinty ferment notes enhance and seduce.
The palate has a lovely entry, leading to a full basket of orchard fruits. This wine carries the weight of the fruit without being heavy, truly dancing on the palate, the bright acidity balancing. The finish lingers with toasted almonds and freshly baked brioche.
A very seductive Chardonnay.
