2019 Wilyabrup Valley Malbec
We love Malbec, and this wine is exactly why - it’s alluring, exotic, and often “approachable” young. Saying a wine is approachable doesn’t mean it’s light or unstructured - in this instance this wine is far far from that!
Like all red wines at Woodlands, the fruit is handled by our gravity fed system. Once harvested the fruit is fed from our vibrating hopper to our gentle 45 degree destemmer, then passed over a vibrating sorting table berry by berry. Fermentation proceeded well with 7 days on skins, then the wine was matured in French barrels for 10 months.
The colour is a very deep crimson. The nose is deep, alluring, and heady - with ripe dark cherry, black olive prominent. The palate has rum and raisin, dark brooding fruits, and ripe soft tannins providing some grip on the finish.
This wine is pure, bright, and effortless. It maintains the primary flavour from the fruit while adding layers of complexity and tannin behind. Just lovely!
Best enjoyed now until 2026.
