2020 'Chloe' Chardonnay

Fruit solely from the Woodlands Vineyard

Our ‘Chloe’ is produced from a 0.8 hectare plot located at the north-east corner of the Woodlands Vineyard, immediately east of our original Cabernet Sauvignon plantings. The plot lies at the top of a south facing slope where the soil is composed of deep loam topsoil over clay. This plot is the most shaded location on our vineyard - protected on the west, north and east.

Our 2020 'Chloe' was handpicked, then taken straight up the hill to the winery to be whole bunch pressed and pressed to barrel. Fermentation proceeded well, with the must fermenting without the addition of yeast. Following fermentation the wine remained in barrel with the lees stirred once a month. After 12 months 60% of the wine was transferred to tank, with the remainder rested in large format oak, until bottling in July 2021.

In 2020 only 1300 bottles were produced.

Tasting Notes

Our 2020 'Chloe' is a very focused wine, yet retaining generosity and warmth.

The colour glistens green gold.

The aromas burst with golden flesh nectarine, citrus, peach and pear tart. As the wine opens up, tight grain toasty oak and grilled cashew influences appear.

The palate is all about elegance and drive - showing ripe orchard fruits, combined with almond and lemon rind. There is a vivid mineral backbone, and a lingering finish with notes of freshly grilled toast with lemon marmalade.

Try matching the 2020 'Chloe' with a dozen Coffin Bay oysters.

For a vegetarian option, match with caramelised butternut and ricotta filo pie, crushed crispy sage sprinkled on top.
